Delaney Ditchfield Recruitment - Interview Hints and Tips
- Research the company and the role before the interview, and think about why you would like to work for them. A prospective employer will take into account the amount of effort that a candidate has taken to prepare and research the company prior to attending the interview.
- Look smart and presentable, first impressions really count! Wear business attire, don’t wear too much make up or perfume and don’t chew gum.
- Plan your journey in advance, take a copy of your route, allow plenty of time to deal with delays or traffic jams. Arrive at least 5-10 minutes early.
- If you can’t attend the interview or think you may be late give your recruitment consultant/or the company a call to let them know as early as possible.
- Thoroughly review your C.V and take a spare copy to brief yourself before the interview and use as a replacement should your interviewer not have one.
- Think through examples you could use in answer to common interview questions. Use a balance of, work experience, academic and extra-curricular activities.
- Have at least three key achievements you can talk about very confidently so you are prepared to use them as examples in your interviews.
- Prepare some questions you would like to ask the interviewer. Relevant questions will demonstrate that you are enthusiastic about the role and the company.
- Avoid asking questions about salary and benefits during the first interview.
- Think about the way you are sitting, try not to cross your arms as this looks defensive. Alternatively, try not to slouch in your chair, or look too laid back.
- Maintain good eye contact with the interviewer, speak clearly during conversations and always ask for feedback.
- At the end of the interview, shake the interviewers hand and thank them for giving you the opportunity to attend the interview.
